The Chair of Modern History concerns itself in both teaching and research with the period from the American Revolution to the present. It accordingly covers the ‘long nineteenth century’, the ‘short twentieth century’ and the immediate prehistory of the present. Within this chronological framework, German History, Western European and Transatlantic History, as well as Media, Cultural and Intellectual History constitute the Chair’s main foci.
